Itinerary Details

Day 1 – 3: Almaty city and snow capped mountains

Welcome to Kazakhstan!

Meet & greet at the airport. Enjoy a stroll in tranquil gardens near the State Opera and Ballet Theater. Get acquainted with Kazakh and Georgian cuisine. Discover the country’s history and culture at the Central State Museum including a special ticket to the Golden Room exhibiting ancient gold adornments dating 600 to 300 BC.

*SPECIALS* Neo-nomadic dining by an acclaimed chef in the Medeu mountains. Depending on the season, your itinerary may include a nature hike to a glacial lake or drive out to stunning wildflower meadows.

Back in the city, make a stop at Kok-Tobe hilltop for sweeping views of Almaty’s skyline. Option to visit local designer boutiques or an art museum if in the mood.

Day 4 – 5: Fly into Tashkent the capital of Uzbekistan

An introductory drive of 20th century Soviet architecture including stops at the Courage Monument and Independence Square. Exploring the city’s beautiful underground metro stations is a must. On a different history spectrum, Tillya Sheikh Mosque at Khast Imam houses the world’s oldest Quran in its library.

Tuck into delicious streetfood at Chorsu Bazaar as well as the Uzbek national dish: plov styles from various regions of Uzbekistan.

Day 6 – 7: The fabled Silk Road oasis of Samarkand

Renown along the Silk Road on the fringes of the Kyzyl Kum Desert, Samarkand has encountered many of world conquerors: Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan and Tamerlane – who made it his capital city and gathered the finest architects, builders and artisans of the time to enhance its beauty.

Highlights include the Registan square, the enormous Bibi Khanum mosque and stunningly ornate necropolis of Shah-i-Zinda. Then take a break from history at the Siab Bazaar nearby filled with heaps of local produce including seasonal fruits, breads and nuts!

*SPECIALS* Off the beaten track, tuck into freshly baked somsa (meat pastries) at a no-frills spot beloved by locals. Thereafter experience a traditional bread making demo at a local’s home courtyard.

Day 8 – 10: Fall in love with magnificent Old Bukhara

This UNESCO Heritage city is a living museum that is more than 2000 years old. Old Bukhara’s maze-like atmosphere invites slow discovery, travel back in time as you navigate the narrow alleys with a local expert by your side.

Highlights include the Ark Citadel, Samani Mausoleum, Kalon Minaret and the Trading Dome merchants. The Summer Palace of the last Emir ruler in the outskirts is also worth a visit.
